First started her career with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Joy has previously worked in the banking industry which helped nurture her skills in communications and finances.

Her commitment to helping students achieve their academic goals while improving their communication skills began in 2007 where she was working with K-12 students at two after-school tutoring programs located in Southern California. Joy started working as a substitute teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District in 2010 and for Hawthorne School District in 2014. While raising her own family and helping K-12 students in multiple school districts, Joy went back to school to earn a post Baccalaureate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2013 from Cal State University Dominguez.

After receiving her degree, Joy sought out to refine her communication skills and earned a specialized degree as a Speech Pathology Assistant from Loma Linda University in 2018. Joy was asked by Jaime this Summer if she would be a part of the GALS Board to support us with secretarial skills that align best with her skills in communication.
